A Message from the President

Meri and Dr. Sol Barer

Like many others, and perhaps you as well, I care deeply about the future of Israel as a thriving and dynamic Jewish state. That’s why I invite you to join our friends across the country who are committed to helping Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa protect and promote the well-being of Israel’s citizens, its neighbors in the region, and people here in the U.S. and around the globe through transformative medical innovation.

Rambam Health Care Campus exemplifies our highest values, providing treatment for all regardless of race, religion, nationality, or socio-economic status. Rambam maintains the highest standards of integrity while providing for the comprehensive medical needs of 2.8 million Israeli citizens, IDF soldiers on Israel’s northern border, as well as U.S. servicemen and women, and peacekeeping forces in the region.

During these last years of war, the Sammy Ofer Fortified Underground Hospital has been reactivated to provide uninterrupted care to the people of northern Israel. The patients and staff of four hospitals in northern Israel that don’t have fortified facilities moved into several sections of the underground garage/hospital, including the children of all the staff. Rambam staff created a school for all the children so that both parents and children could be together and feel safe.

Rambam’s prolific medical research activities are at the forefront of such fields as stem cell therapies, cardiovascular care, medical imaging, neurology and maxillofacial reconstruction, contributing to breakthroughs that have impacted the lives of millions around the world.

American Friends of Rambam Medical Center provides critical support to the most vitally important hospital complex in northern Israel.

Our generous friends support innovative research and medical device development through fellowship and scholarship programs. To meet the needs of Israel’s growing families, our generous donors have helped make Rambam’s exciting campus expansion possible. They have helped build new facilities for the cardiology department, the oncology department, and now underway, two new neurology buildings — one for clinical care and one for research.

Our generous donors help support Rambam’s ability to save lives by funding the replacement of outdated medical equipment in such departments as emergency medicine, intensive care, pediatrics and obstetrics.

If you are looking for a cause that is meaningful, uplifting, engaging and deeply satisfying, I invite you to join the American Friends of Rambam, which offers a rare opportunity to give of yourself, and get so much in return.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Meri Barer
President, American Friends of Rambam
