New at Rambam: Women’s Clinic for Victims of Sexual Violence
A new clinic at Rambam Health Care Campus offers a dedicated framework for victims of sexual assault in order to provide them with follow-up and medical treatment in a manner best suited for them.
One in three women is sexually assaulted in their lifetime, according to data collected in recent years. These experiences have a profound impact, and over time, these women must learn to handle a variety of consequences resulting from the ordeal.
The emotional and physical trauma experienced by these women prevents many of them from maintaining a normal medical routine when it comes to routine checkups, gynecological follow-up, and getting answers to any problems that arise. A new service recently inaugurated at Rambam Health Care Campus provides a unique solution for these women, allowing them to take care of their health in a way that meets their unique and potentially complex needs.
The Matan Clinic, which operates as part of the Rambam Gynecology Clinic, takes care of all gynecological problems, tests, and diseases. The clinic staff includes Dr. Anna Petrusev, a senior gynecologist who also specializes in the areas of menopause and neuro-urology, with an emphasis on treatment of women with sexual dysfunction; Nurit Ariel, the women’s clinic charge nurse, who is experienced in treating women in all stages of life; and Uri Mazor, a mental health social worker, with specialized experience in sexual trauma.
“These are women who need medical follow-up and a solution for assistance with medical problems that have remained untreated due to the lingering effects of the sexual trauma,” explains Dr. Petrusev. “As such, their health may deteriorate.”
“There is an understanding here that these women need a different kind of response that takes these factors into consideration,” says Ariel, adding, “The new clinic at Rambam operates according to this concept, which allows women who have been sexually assaulted to receive dedicated, sensitive treatment that sees them and provides a professional, broad and accurate answer for their needs.”
