Presentation on Oncology – in View of Time
On June 12, in Palo Alto, California, a full house indicated the relevance of the topic “Oncology – In View of Time” presented by Prof. Irit Ben Aharon, head of oncology at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Our generous host for the evening was Liora Schultz and husband Ari Tuchman. Liora, a doctor in pediatric hemato-oncology at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and an avid supporter of medical research in Israel, also contributed to the program by sharing her exciting research findings relating to adoptive immunotherapy in treating an aggressive form of Leukemia in children called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Provocative questions and an interesting discussion ensued reflecting the highly educated and science-oriented community of Silicon Valley.
American Friends of Rambam was also delighted in welcoming an additional guest speaker and close friend of the organization, Dr. Eben Rosenthal. Eben, who is the John and Ann Doerr Medical Director of the Stanford Cancer Center, also addressed the audience and explained what can be expected if diagnosed with cancer at a local level, with the advantage of living with access to excellent health care. Though not present, Stanford Medicine’s Dean Lloyd Minor, has suggested a person’s address predicts his life expectancy better than his genetics.
