February 2, 2020 – A ceremony was held at Rambam Health Care Campus last week to celebrate completion of the 20-story skeletal building structure for the Helmsley Health Discovery Tower. Those in attendance included representatives from Rambam’s administration and other staff members. Following a speech by Dr. Michael Halberthal, Rambam’s Director General and CEO, the Tower was briefly lit up by Dr. Halberthal; Professor Rafi Beyar, President of International Friends Associations and Chairman of the Steering Committee, Helmsley Health Discovery Tower; Dr. Esty Golan, Managing Director of International Relations and Chief of Strategic Development; and Mr. Ariye Berkoviz, Deputy CEO of Construction and Development. The Tower’s cornerstone was laid during the 2018 Rambam Summit, held in May 2018.
During his speech, Dr. Halberthal talked about the efforts made to reach this point, and spoke of the hospital’s gratitude for those parties instrumental in the tower’s establishment, emphasizing the generosity of the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust and Ruth and Sandor Frankel – whose gift enabled Rambam to establish this facility, as well as members of Rambam’s administration, the Rambam Engineering Department, contractors from Solel Boneh, the University of Haifa, and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
“This milestone signifies a huge accomplishment towards Rambam’s vision for translational research, medical academia, promotion of state-of-the-art healthcare, and a paradigm-changing collaboration between medicine, and biomedical industry. Helmsley Health Discover Tower truly represents the creation of the future of medicine – our vision for humanity,” noted Dr. Halberthal.
Once completed, the Tower will serve as one of the most advanced medical research institutes in the world. It will be home to the Clinical Research Institute at Rambam, laboratories, technological incubators, medtech device start-ups, and other research institutions.
