Our Story
– Bita and David –

Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel has been a place where miracles are known to happen. The first miracle I experienced occurred in 1986.

As a young 8-year-old girl who was struggling with the untimely death of her father from lung cancer, I got diagnosed with a rare form of cancer myself that had the best chance of survival in Israel. Immediately after my diagnosis, my mother, sister, and I moved to Israel. Within one year, after surgery and bouts of chemo and radiation, I learned that I beat this terrible disease, ultimately owing my life to Rambam.

Immediately after my diagnosis, my mother, sister, and I made Aliyah to Israel. Within one year, after surgery and bouts of chemo and radiation, I learned that I beat this terrible disease, ultimately owing my life to Rambam.

Fast forward 33 years, and I found myself facing cancer all over again… but this time it was not me, but my beloved husband David who was targeted. After a courageous fight for his life for 3 years, David unfortunately succumbed to the disease in April 2022 at the age of 42. This loss left a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him dearly.

During David’s battle with cancer, we found ourselves making every effort to find treatments that might somehow cure him. Every search kept pointing us to Rambam Hospital. At various times during his struggle, we would send David’s test results to Rambam to determine if and what treatments were available to him beyond just California. Unfortunately, due to Covid and David’s eventual physical inability to travel, this life saving possibility was not meant to be.

However, just because David was not one of the fortunate ones to benefit from Rambam’s innovative procedures, that did not mean he never cared for those who would be able to get the treatment he so desperately needed. It is because of David’s desire to always help those in need that we decided to pursue this fundraiser, to ensure his love for life and legacy of compassion for his fellow human would be a blessing for cancer patients searching for their own miracles today.
