Dr. Talma Cohen Shares her Expertise on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in South Florida
Dr. Talma Cohen, Director of the first-of-its-kind PTSD clinic in Israel, the Mental Health Center for Trauma Survivors at Rambam, offered hope and healing to the South Florida community following the one year anniversary of the infamous Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre and the more recent shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue.
Her detailed presentation before a rapt audience of Israeli professional women at the “Ladies Riviera Parliament” resulted in a better understanding of this life-threatening mental disorder and inspired several new supporters of the PTSD clinic that she and renowned Rambam Chief of Psychiatry, Dr. Eyal Fruchter, opened last September. She also addressed an audience of 100+ at the prestigious Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce, an organization of government, business and community leaders representing several cities in Dade and Broward Counties. She explained how she and Dr. Fruchter and their multi-disciplinary team treat adults and children in evidence-based, short-term treatment modalities, evaluating, providing assessment and treatment to over 80 patients a week.
Dr. Cohen’s visit to South Florida and her presentations generated a great interest and enthusiasm to replicate models of her PTSD clinic here in South Florida and to support Rambam’s efforts as a world leader in the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD, a mental disorder sweeping our nation and affecting not only our armed forces veterans but our children.
