Rambam’s Chief of Neurosurgery Shares his Expertise at Florida Atlantic University
Professor Gill Sviri, M.D., MSc, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and the Head of the Skull Base and Pituitary Program at Rambam, gave an informative and exciting presentation before a rapt audience of faculty and students from Florida Atlantic University’s medical school, which also included interested members from the Boca Raton community. The event was sponsored by the Florida Israel Institute, an organization led by Professor Daniel Raviv, which invites Israeli leaders in research, medicine, hi-tech and government to speak on the latest developments in their areas of expertise.
Dr. Sviri’s talk was entitled “Playing God – What It’s Like to be a Brain Surgeon.” His presentation included breathtaking videos of his life-saving surgeries and touching patient testimonials. He gave the audience a fascinating journey into the most complex structure in the universe, the human brain, and the crucial moments during brain surgery when the surgeon must make fateful decisions.
Commented Professor Raviv, “As we all witnessed, Dr. Sviri delivered a fascinating talk on his very impressive life-saving work presented in the best possible way. The audience loved it!” Following his hour-long presentation, which was punctuated by applause and which concluded with a standing ovation, Dr. Sviri invited the attendees to join him at this year’s Summit for a tour of his department and meetings with his surgical team and hospital administration.
He also encouraged medical missions to Rambam for patients who may be candidates for innovative medical procedures and treatments that are currently only available at Rambam.
